چکیده

We consider here a representative set of δ Scuti stars observed in the Praesepe cluster, thanks to recent efforts of multi-site networks. We show that the effect of rotation on the determination of fundamental parameters Mbol and Teff cannot be neglected when modelling fast rotators as δ Scuti stars. We propose a method to take this effect into account and gain some indication on the rotation rate of the stars. We then use this unique homogeneous set of observational data to investigate the pulsational behaviour of δ Scuti stars for different masses, corresponding to different evolutionary stages at the age of the Praesepe cluster. We propose here an alternative approach to seismology of δ Scuti stars, trying to avoid specific but questionable mode identifications. Via a large set of models, we compare the observed modes with the unstable modes as obtained from a linear stability analysis including a nonlocal time-dependent treatment of convection. We show that, in the framework of the linear analysis adopted here, a satisfying agreement can be reached between the predicted ranges of unstable modes and the ranges derived from observations. However we found that for “low-mass” δ Scuti stars (1.6-1.80M ) the agreement is found only for a restricted range of values of the mixing length parameter. These stars thus bring a valuable observational constraint on the description of the convection in the outer layers of stars.

A Study of Convection with δ Scuti Stars in Open Clusters : the Pleiades

In this work we propose a preliminary seismic investigation of δ Scuti stars in the Pleiades cluster, focusing on potential diagnostics of convection and core-overshooting. Taking into account the effect of fast rotation in the modelling, we compare observed frequencies for 4 δ Scuti stars with radial linear instability predictions. A satisfying agreement is reached between the predicted ranges...

Seismology of δ Scuti stars in the Praesepe cluster II. Identification of radial modes and their associated stellar parameters

An analysis based on a comparison between observations and stellar models has been carried out to identify radial modes of oscillations in several multi-periodic δ Scuti stars of the Praesepe cluster (BU, BN, BW and BS Cnc). The assumption that all the stars considered have common parameters, such as metallicity, distance or age, is imposed as a constraint. Even so, there is a large number of p...

Asteroseismology of δ Scuti stars in open clusters: Praesepe

The present paper provides a general overview of the asteroseismic potential of δ Scuti stars in clusters, in particular focusing on convection diagnostics. We give a summarise of the last results obtained by the authors for the Praesepe cluster of which five δ Scuti stars are analysed. In that work, linear analysis is confronted with observations, using refined descriptions for the effects of ...

Pulsation, binarity and close frequency spacing in δ Scuti stars: BQ and BW Cancri Results of the STEPHI VI campaign in Praesepe Cluster

New pulsation modes in two δ Scuti stars of Praesepe cluster, BQ and BW Cnc, have been detected during the STEPHI VI campaign in 1995. In particular, 3 frequencies for BQ Cnc and 9 frequencies for BW Cnc have been found above a 99% confidence level. The possibility of the presence of a g-mode present in BQ Cnc is discussed, considering its binarity. The effect of mutual interference between ver...

Mode stability in δ Scuti stars: linear analysis versus observations in open clusters

A comparison between linear stability analysis and observations of pulsation modes in five δ Scuti stars, belonging to the same cluster, is presented. The study is based on the work by Michel et al. (1999), in which such a comparison was performed for a representative set of model solutions obtained independently for each individual star considered. In this paper we revisit the work by Michel e...
